the abandoned time / die verlassene zeit 2025. Textile collage with algae print, on wood, 30 x 30 x 1 cm, 26-piece series (selection)
Wars, economic crises, social upheavals, the loss of culture and a global shift to the right give rise to existential fears.
My parents survived the Second World War. The experiences from that time – marked by serious injury, fear of death, flight, displacement and silence – are embedded in our genetic heritage. These emotional memories continue to affect us through transgenerational transmission, even if we did not experience them directly. Within us, the past and the present coexist, as do emotions both lived through and inherited.
The 26-part series challenges the viewer to engage with the nature of time and the coexistence of the present and memory. The textile collage becomes a visual metaphor: fabric fragments, arranged in a deliberate composition, which refer to the familiar and the present, and algae prints, with their uncontrollable structures, which vaguely allude to unconscious memories and the fleeting moment. Structure and chance, the familiar and yet the foreign.
